DYNAMIC HARMONY

Project type
Social and Urban Architecture
Date
June 2024
Location
Delhi, India

My fifth year project at the Architectural Association was initiative for the recognition of Janta Camp, an informal settlement in Delhi. This project acts as an attempt to celebrate the diverse nature of Indian communities and advocate for the residents' "Right to the City", ensuring their inclusion in the broader urban narrative. The proposal introduces a multi-functional community space that accommodates the residents existing social activities. The spaces are designed based on the specific needs of the community, mirroring the communal and functional aspects of traditional Indian vernacular architecture to enhance a sense of belonging and community cohesion. The framework utilizes low cost and locally sourced materials, and is designed to be scalable. It can be built for other informal settlements across the city, in collaboration with local organizations and non-profits. The project aspires to bring recognition to the people of this camp and at acknowledging these homes as actual living spaces and urban typologies within Delhi.
